Home Efficiency Rebate COVID-19 Update

Published on April 03, 2020

With the ongoing COVID-19 situation continuing to evolve on a daily basis, Enbridge Gas Inc. has made the decision to suspend the energy audit portion of the Home Efficiency Rebate until further notice. To be clear, the program itself isn’t being cancelled, rather it is on hold until the suspension has been lifted and it’s safe to begin conducting energy audits again.

Details

Active Participants in the Home Efficiency Rebate

For customers who have already begun the process of the Home Efficiency Rebate, there are a few changes to the program depending on where you are in the process.

  • If you’ve already had your pre-renovation energy audit completed but haven’t finished your renovations and/or your post-renovation energy audit, you can schedule your energy audit after the suspension has been lifted.

    • Those who are at this stage in the Home Efficiency Rebate are automatically being granted an extension on their file until June 30, 2020.

  • If you completed your post-renovation energy audit prior to the suspension (March 17, 2020), your service organization (such as Barrier Sciences Group), will submit all of your paperwork for you to Enbridge Gas so you can receive your rebate cheque in the mail.

Those Who Wish To Participate In The Home Efficiency Rebate

Anyone wishing to participate in the Home Efficiency Rebate can still do so, but must wait to begin the process until after the suspension has been lifted.

FAQ

What is Barrier Sciences Group doing to protect me during COVID-19?

As of March 17, 2020, Enbridge Gas Inc. has suspended all energy audits relating to the Home Efficiency Rebate incentive program. Until the suspension has been lifted, Barrier Sciences Group and all other service organizations cannot conduct energy audits for the Home Efficiency Rebate.

Are there still rebates available?

There are rebates available through the Home Efficiency Rebate! Through the program, you can receive up to $5,000 in rebates for completing upgrades to your home that increase the overall energy efficiency of your home. The rebates include upgrades like windows and doors, insulation, furnaces, water heaters, and air sealing.

In order to qualify for the Home Efficiency Rebate, you must have a pre-renovation energy audit completed on your home. Unfortunately with the COVID-19 pandemic, Barrier Sciences Group has to temporarily suspend all energy audits as part of the mandate from Enbridge Gas Inc. Once Enbridge Gas lifts the suspension, you can schedule your energy audit and take advantage of up to $5,000 in rebates through the Home Efficiency Rebate incentive program.

Will there be a delay in receiving my rebate cheque?

If you have already completed your post-renovation energy audit, you will still receive your rebate cheque in the mail. Barrier Sciences Group will submit all of your paperwork to Enbridge Gas in order to fulfill the requirements for you to receive your rebate.

If you haven’t completed your post-renovation energy audit, unfortunately there will be a delay in receiving your rebate cheque as the energy audit is a mandatory requirement for the Home Efficiency Rebate. Once the energy audit suspension has been lifted, you can schedule your post-renovation energy audit and receive your rebate cheque in the mail.

I had an energy audit scheduled. What does this mean for my energy audit?

Your Registered Energy Advisor should be contacting you to reschedule your energy audit as soon as possible. At this time we are temporarily unable to conduct energy audits for the Home Efficiency Rebate per the Enbridge Gas in-home energy audit suspension.

You can still, however, fill out an online form on the Barrier Sciences Group website to schedule an energy audit. Once we receive communication from Enbridge Gas that the ban has been lifted, someone from the Barrier Sciences Group office will contact you to schedule an energy audit on your home.

I’m in the process of going through the Home Efficiency Rebate but have yet to complete my post-renovation energy audit. How do I go about completing the program?

You can complete the Home Efficiency Rebate once the temporary in-home energy audit ban has been lifted. If you’d like to schedule your energy audit, you can fill out a contact form on the Barrier Sciences Group website. Once the suspension has been lifted, someone from the office will contact you to schedule your post-renovation energy audit.
