Upgrade Home Insulation with Energy Rebates in Ontario

Right now, homeowners are able to apply for a multitude of different energy rebates Ontario has to offer. Ontario rebates help make it more affordable to undergo home improvements that reduce household energy usage. Of all the rebate programs in the province, the Home Efficiency Rebate program is the most notable, with up to $5,000 of home reno rebates able to be claimed.

This includes a cash incentive for upgrading your home comfort with spray foam insulation, improving insulation in the attic, improving overall airtightness, and many others. As is the case with most programs for energy rebates in Ontario, the more you renovate for energy efficiency, the more you save through the program. This means that the more upgrades you make, the easier it is to see a return on your investment through utility bill savings

Here at BSG we are proud to call ourselves your rebate experts. If you have any questions about an Ontario insulation rebate, the Home Efficiency Rebate program, or about any of the other programs offered in the province, feel free to call us toll free at 1-866-333-3920; or speak with us through our website. Our experienced energy advisors are always happy to assist you.

Spray Foam Insulation is Effective and Versatile

Of all the different types of insulation, spray foam insulation is often regarded as the most versatile and the most effective for the majority of home improvement purposes. It is able to expand and completely fill the cavity it is sprayed into (note that it cannot be used if the drywall is already up). Spray foam insulation can be used to completely seal walls, attics, and floors. It creates an airtight barrier that can be effective for moisture and home temperature control, and can be used in almost every home reno application.

The Ontario insulation rebates from the Home Efficiency Rebate program are results based, meaning that a certain R-Value (the measurement of effectiveness for insulation) must be achieved, and not for choosing a specific type of insulation product. This means that you are able to qualify for the rebate by many different means. For example, you could use spray foam insulation to qualify for the $1000 rebate for upgrading basement insulation to at least R23. You could also use a combination of spray foam insulation and fibreglass batts to qualify for the same rebate.

This freedom of choice regarding the type of insulation to use, which area of the home to renovate, and how much to set aside for a budget can make it difficult to plan for home renovations without the right help. Fortunately a home energy audit from a certified service organization helps you with all of these choices. A home energy audit provides you with an in-depth look at the energy performance of your home, along with a list of possible upgrades you can make to reduce its overall energy consumption and utility costs -- ordered in terms of their cost-effectiveness. Also, a home energy audit is part of the application process for many of the energy rebates Ontario has to offer, making it the place to start for any and all home improvements.

Applying for an Ontario Insulation Rebate - You’ll need a Home Energy Audit

To qualify for the Home Efficiency Rebate program, an energy audit will need to be conducted on your home both before any renovations have begunand after renovations have been completed. This is not only to demonstrate the effectiveness of your home improvements, but also to provide you with a list of possible upgrades that you can plan to undertake in the future. Worry not – you will receive energy audit rebates too.

Even before the energy audit is completed, BSG’s energy advisors are able to steer you towards the home improvements that are likely the best suited for your needs. However, once your home energy audit is completed, our energy advisors are able to show you exactly which improvements would be the most effective and affordable for you to make. This allows you to target the problem areas of your home where energy performance suffers, which saves you money on your monthly utility payments and helps you to avoid doing renovations that only make a small improvement.

Also, as a home becomes more airtight, insulated, and energy efficient, so too does it become more comfortable and affordable to live in. An energy efficient home is also very desirable on the modern housing market, meaning that the value of your home increases when you renovate for better energy performance. In most Ontario homes, attic insulation improvements make the biggest difference in terms of: lowering utility cost, increasing home comfort on every floor, and reducing unwanted air exchange. Through the Home Efficiency Rebate program, a $500 Ontario insulation rebate is available for upgrading attic insulation from R35 or less to the high R-Value of R60, which can be achieved with professionally applied spray foam insulation.

Choosing the Right Insulation Contractors for your Needs

Shopping for insulation contractors can be difficult, but it is important to keep a few things in mind during your search: your budget, your window of time for renovations, and the contactability of your contractor. These factors will not only help you sort through available insulation contractors and make a decision, but it will also help you to plan and account for the energy rebates Ontario offers.

With the help of an Ontario insulation rebate, spray foam insulation upgrades in the attic, batt insulation installs in the basement, and even hybrid insulation improvements on the main floor all become more affordable to undertake. This means that energy efficiency home improvements are easily able to pay themselves off through utility bill savings, and that more improvements could be made for the same amount of investment.
