Habitat for Humanity Heartland Ontario

Barrier Sciences Group has partnered with Habitat For Humanity Heartland Ontario to provide valuable home airtightness testing and energy modeling for home builds in the Southwestern Ontario region.

Habitat for Humanity is an international nonprofit organization founded in 1976, with international headquarters located in Americus, Georgia. Canada’s operations within Habitat for Humanity International began in 1985, with a first Habitat home being built in Winkler, Manitoba, and a first local Habitat for Humanity being created in Winnipeg just two years later. Today, every province and territory within Canada has local Habitat for Humanity installations to assist in providing thousands of families with better housing and more comfortable lives across Canada.

A core principle that drives Habitat for Humanity Heartland Ontario is one shared by Barrier Sciences Group – that everyone should have access to safe, affordable, sustainable, and comfortable housing as a basic right. Habitat for Humanity Heartland Ontario is well known for their home builds, which utilize volunteers, donors and partner families to build homes within the Oxford, Middlesex, Elgin, and Perth counties.

Barrier Sciences Group is proud to have assisted Habitat with airtightness testing on multiple homes builds. An airtightness test is an essential part to any new home build, and utilizes depressurization of the home to systematically identify air leakage points to allow for the sealing and elimination of as many leakage pathways as possible. This method drastically increases the overall energy efficiency of the home and creates a more comfortable, sustainable building.

In addition to airtightness testing, Barrier Sciences Group has provided Habitat for Humanity Heartland Ontario with HOT2000 energy simulations to determine gigajoule energy ratings of planned home builds. HOT2000 is an energy simulation tool developed by Natural Resources Canada (NRCan) and utilized by trained energy advisor professionals that determines estimated annual energy use and cost effectiveness of energy efficiency upgrades.

With these services, Barrier Sciences Group is able to assist Habitat in the creation of cost-efficient, comfortable homes for those who need them most. BSG looks forward to continuing to assist Habitat with future home builds!
